Applying Glazes with Majolica Decorative Technique

with Roberta Barlati

July 11, 2016

AED 500.00 per participant : includes all material

This is a 2 day workshop focused on glazing applicaiton technique. Majolica, is a wonderful way to create imagery on your work. This brush technique has a nice appeal because the fired result looks pretty close to the way it was applied. This decorative technique is great for potters who wish to treat their surfaces like canvas – especially if they wish to maintain crisp line work in the finished product.

About the Artist:

Roberta Barlati's art career started studying design, painting and pottery at the Development Art Center in Ravenna, Italy. From 1986 to 2007 she owned the art studio “Arte Ceramica di Roberta Barlati”. She managed the studio producing and selling traditional and contemporary majolica. She created vases and abstract operas obtained by the fusion of mosaic on coloured glazes. Roberta has participated in national and international exhibitions. She taught sculpture and pottery in many schools and at her atelier for adults. Since 2007 Roberta is exploring other artistic expressions in painting, photography and papier-mâché.

Sculpture Workshop: Focus on Spheres

with Katy des Fontaines

February 19, 2018

AED 500.00 + VAT

This is a 2 day workshop focused on the sphere as sculptural object. This is a design and skills teaching workshop. The more common of the forms in the natural world is the sphere. Many artists take lots of inspiration from this shape. However, making a sphere in clay is not an easy task. Taking this form into different sizes can also be a challenge when you consider firing and shrinkage. This workshop will address all these problems and more.

About the Artist:

Katy des Fontaines is a Belgium born artist, lived and worked across Europe, Asia and Africa. Her sculptures have a certain maturity, using spheres and round shapes  signify the softness of the human soul. Her work has always been guided with African accents.  She believes once you have put your foot on that continent, your mind never looks at things in the same way. Africa remains in you and it has to come out in one way or another.
