Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the frequently asked questions answered.

How can I become a member?

The best way is to visit us at the studio. Come in, fill in the registration form and soon after you’ll have your personal access key to the studio. It’s that simple.

What happens when I go on holiday? Who looks after my work?

At the studio we will teach you how to make your own storage boxes that will help keep your work-in-progress moist while you are away. You can just let us know by email how often you want us to inspect your storage box and how to look after your work, and we will do our best to meet your expectations

Where can I buy tools, clay and glazes?

We sell a range of tools, clay and glazes to our members. There are many online stores that will ship to your address. Please note if you buy your own clay we can only fire it to our standard temperature of 1200 Degrees glaze firing.

How do you calcualte the kiln volume per member?

We measure the height, width and depth; multiply the three and get the cubic measurement of your artwork. We will then keep adding them up until you reach your limit.

Can I bring a friend to keep me company as I work ?

Everyone is welcome at Yadawei. We do however request that your guest does not touch anything, and we invite you and your guest to make use of our living room to relax and unwind.

How are workshops different from classes?

The purpose of a workshop is to focus on one specific skill or technique. Workshops are one-time events and do not require a long-term weekly commitment like classes.

What can I expect during a workshop?

You can expect to learn great new skills and techniques, and meet like-minded pottery enthusiasts with different skill levels. You will also enjoy very personal interaction with the teaching artist. There will be breaks during the day for you to relax and reflect on your masterpiece. The aim is for you to learn and there is no pressure on you to complete any artwork during a workshop.

What do I wear to a workshop? Do I need to bring anything with me?

Pottery is a wonderfully dirty business. Please wear loose, comfortable clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty or are easy to clean. We recommend that you bring a bottle of water and a snack, and we have a fridge and a microware in our pantry, which you are welcome to make use of. You don’t need to bring any tools unless specified in the workshop details, but it’s always a good idea to bring a notebook along to keep your own notes.

What happens at a typical workshop?

We always begin our workshops with introductions so that everyone can get acquainted. We will then explain the teaching goals of the workshop and discuss the plan for the day. Breaks are always scheduled before new concepts are introduced. 15 minutes before the end of the workshop, participants will be kindly asked to clean up and ensure everything’s ready for the next day.

How long are workshops?

Workshop times vary and you can check the specific details of each workshop on our website ‘Events’ page. Please feel free to contact us if you need any clarification or more information.

What is your attendance policy? Can I get a refund?

Once you have paid your place is booked and will remain available to you unless you have notified us otherwise. You are encouraged to attend the full length of the workshop to ensure you get the full benefit. In the event that you are unable to attend for any reason, it is at the teacher’s discretion whether to repeat the missed information. Please note that we have a no refund policy and are unable to reimburse anyone for absenteeism.

How can I get a certificate for a workshop I attended?

We provide certificates upon request, which are signed by both the teacher of the workshop and Yadawei management. However if the teacher is not available we are unable to issue a certificate. For this reason we strongly advice that you let us know before or during the workshop. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, UAE, can attest our certificates. Unfortunately, we don’t provide a service for attestation at this time. We will guide you through the process.
